Borregaard has one of the world's most advanced and sustainable biorefineries.
By using natural, sustainable raw materials, Borregaard produces advanced and environmentally friendly biochemicals that can replace oil-based products. Borregaard also holds strong positions within ingredients and fine chemicals. Borregaard has 1080 employees in plants and sales offices in 16 countries throughout Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa. Health, safety and environment are integrated into Borregaard's business plan. The company aims to show social responsibility and work actively with initiatives that can contribute to sound environmental and social development. In line with Borregaard's strategy for specialisation and increased value creation, the company invests considerable resources in research and development. This is carried out at research centres in Norway, Spain, South Africa and the USA, as well as through extensive collaboration with customers, universities and research institutions in several countries.
Role in the Project
Borregaard is constructing the first commercial factory in the world producing a pure microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). The company will in the project work on developing applications and markets for the MFC.
Key Borregaard personnel in the project
Jarle Wikeby, the Exilva coordinator, is a Senior project director at Borregaard since 2012. Jarle has been working in the company since 1987 and has extensive experience of large industrial project at Borregaard. Before that he occupied different positions at Borregaard being in charge of Denomega Pure Health division (2008-2012), plant manager for the Synthesis Pharma division.
Stein A Josefsen, Plant Manager at the Exilva Flagship plant. Stein has been working in Borregaard since 1989, more or less continuously except from 3 years as a general manager in another company. Stein has extensive experience from production and has been plant manager for the Borregaard’s Pharma division.
Dr. Hans Henrik Øvrebø holds a Dr. Scient. In organic chemistry from the University of Bergen. Dr. Øvrebø is the Chief Technology Officer for the Exilva project and has held various positions within the Borregaard group, working in both the fine chemistry division as well as the ChemCell division.
Mats Hjørnevik is the marketing manager for the Exilva project. Mats holds a M.Sc. in International Marketing and Management, and has been with Borregaard since 2011.
Majvi Brandbu is the Project Finance Manager at Borregaard, working with several projects in the organization. Brandbu has worked at Borregaard since 2010, previously also working with business development. She is also the project finance manager for the Exilva BBI JU project
Pål Romberg, the Exilva Vice President, is an MBA from the Northern Arizona University and has worked in Borregaard since 1995. Mr Romberg has held various positions within the Borregaard group, among other heading the LignoTech USA division and several commercial roles.
